Abstract:
A Study of indoor and outdoor radiation dose rate level measurements for male and female hostels at the Federal University of Kashere Hostels, Gombe State, Nigeria, has been carried out with the radiation alert smart 4 to ascertain the radiation level. The measured radiation dose rates were used to calculate the excess lifetime cancer risk and assess radiological health risks. The mean annual outdoor and indoor equivalent doses were 0.02mSv/y. and 0.37mSv/y. were recorded, with less than mSv/y. maximum recommended limit for the general public. The mean annual outdoor and indoor effective doses were 0.017 mSv/y. and 0.086 mSv/y. respectively with a total of 0.103 mSv/yr. respectively. were computed. Mean outdoor and indoor ELCR values of 0.061X10-3and 0.302X10-3 respectively, with a mean total of 0.363X10-3 were also computed.
