Onion production has experienced remarkable growth in various sub-Saharan African countries over the past two decades. In Senegal, this sector plays a significant role in horticultural production, which is primarily concentrated in the Niayes region and the Senegal River Valley. The Violet de Galmi and Red Bombay varieties exhibit the highest average survival rates, at 97.99% and 97.31% respectively; conversely, the Gandiol+ variety has the lowest rate, with an average of 89.99%. The HSD (Heads-Steering Difference) mean comparison test identified three (3) groups of varieties and one intermediate group. The Red Bombay, Violet de Galmi, and Safari varieties are the most vigorous, with averages of 0.59, 0.55, and 0.54 respectively. At the 4andOver the course of two weeks, the Red Bombay, Violet de Galmi, and Safari varieties were more vigorous, with averages of 0.59, 0.55, and 0.54, respectively. The study results showed that the plant survival rate was higher for the Violet de Galmi and Red Bombay varieties. Gross yields were generally high, ranging from 90.19 t/ha (Texas Early Grano) to 44.92 t/ha (VDG American). The Texas Early Grano variety appeared to be the highest performing in terms of field productivity.
